What to Expect at Your First Remote Applied Kinesiology Consultation

Not able to make it into the clinic? Applied kinesiology can still be done remotely using a technique called surrogate testing — where muscle testing is performed on a stand-in person (or the practitioner's own arm) while you're connected by video call. Here's exactly what that looks like, step by step.

Before Your Appointment

You'll be asked to complete an intake form ahead of time, covering:

  • Your current diagnosis (or diagnoses) and how long you've had symptoms

  • Medications and supplements you're currently taking

  • Recent lab work or specialist reports, if available

  • Your main goals for the session

You'll also need:

  • A stable internet connection and a device with video (laptop, tablet, or phone)

  • A quiet, private space for the call You don't need to arrange anything on your end — the surrogate testing is handled entirely on our side using my clinical assistant.

What Is Surrogate Testing?

In a surrogate session, physical contact between your body and mine isn't needed for the muscle test itself. Instead, my clinical assistant acts as the surrogate: I test their arm directly in the room while they hold a physical or informational connection related to you (for example, your intake details, a photo, or a written note with your information) during the call.

Surrogate testing is a long-standing technique within applied kinesiology, used especially for infants, people with mobility limitations, and remote consultations. As with in-person muscle testing, it's worth being upfront that this method hasn't been validated in controlled research, and we treat it the same way we treat in-clinic testing: as one input alongside your reported symptoms and history, not a stand-alone diagnostic tool.

The Consultation: Step by Step

1. The conversation (15–20 minutes) Same as an in-person visit — we'll talk through your health history, symptoms, diagnosis, medications, stress, sleep, and diet over video.

2. Setting up the surrogate connection (5 minutes) I'll briefly explain what's happening on camera: my assistant will act as the surrogate, holding a connection to you (your intake information, a photo, or similar) while I test their arm.

3. The muscle testing session (20–30 minutes) I'll test my assistant's arm while asking about specific substances, reflex points, or statements related to your case — you'll simply stay present on the call, answer any questions, and describe what you're feeling as we go.

4. Discussion of findings (10–15 minutes) We'll talk through what came up and how it fits with your history and symptoms.

5. Building your starting protocol Based on the full picture, we'll put together an initial set of recommendations — which may include specific over-the-counter natural medicines, dietary adjustments, or lifestyle changes, all available without needing to visit in person.

6. Follow-up plan You'll leave the call with clear next steps and a plan for when to check back in (typically 4–6 weeks).

How Long Does It Take?

Plan for 45-60 minutes, the same as an in-person visit.

What This Visit Is (and Isn't)

This consultation is designed to build a personalized natural medicine protocol alongside your existing medical care — it isn't a substitute for diagnosis, monitoring, or treatment from your physician or specialist, especially for a chronic autoimmune condition. We'll ask about your current medical team and encourage you to keep them informed about anything you start.

A Few Practical Tips for Remote Sessions

  • Test your video/audio setup a few minutes before the call

  • Have a list of current medications and supplements on hand (or the bottles themselves, visible on camera if helpful)

  • Find a quiet spot with minimal interruptions

  • Come with questions — remote visits work best as a two-way conversation
